COMMUNITIES

Strong communities are built by people, not politics.
For me, communities have always come first.
Long before I became involved in politics, I believed that the strength of any town, village or city comes from the people who live there. Communities are built by neighbours looking out for one another, volunteers giving their time, local groups making a difference and ordinary people who care about where they live.
One of the things I enjoy most is meeting people and listening to their experiences. Every community has its own character, its own challenges and its own strengths. Taking the time to listen is often the first step towards making a positive difference.
One of the things that opened my eyes after becoming a councillor was just how many good people are willing to give up their own time to help others. Whether it is organising local events, supporting charities, helping neighbours, running community groups or simply being there when somebody needs support, there are countless people quietly making a difference every day. They rarely seek recognition, but they are often the people who hold communities together.
As a councillor, I have seen first-hand how much can be achieved when people work together. Real change does not always come from Westminster or from party politics. More often, it comes from local people who are prepared to step forward and get involved.
I believe that communities thrive when people feel heard, respected and valued. That means listening to concerns, encouraging participation and helping bring people together, even when there are differences of opinion.
Whether through community events, local campaigns, volunteering or simply being present and approachable, I believe in building stronger connections between people and supporting the places we call home.
Politics should serve communities, not the other way around.
Communities are where we raise our families, build friendships, support one another and create opportunities for future generations. They deserve our time, our energy and our commitment.
That is why communities will always come first.
